Tupolev Company congratulates Alexander Shengardt, Tu-154 chief designer, on the 95th anniversary
On June 1, 2020, the chief designer of the Tu-154 aircraft Alexander Shengardt is 95. Tupolev PJSC team wishes a happy anniversary to one of the company's most honored employees.
Alexander S. Shengardt devoted his entire professional life to the Tupolev Design Bureau. After graduating from the Moscow Aviation Technology Institute, he came as an ordinary design engineer to the company in 1948. He participated in the development and implementation of the production of the Tu-16, Tu-95, Tu-104, Tu-114 and Tu-134 aircraft, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles. In 1975, he was appointed chief designer, project manager of the most popular and mass-produced Tu-154 passenger aircraft in the history of the country. Under the leadership of Alexander S. Shengardt, further modifications of the famous aircraft were developed: Tu-154A, Tu-154B, Tu-154B2 and Tu-154M.
The entire aviation world knows him as a developer and creator of the aircraft that for decades has been the main long-haul airliner of civil aviation in Russia, a number of foreign countries, and is still in operation.
Now Alexander Shengardt works as an adviser to the general director of Tupolev PJSC, transfers his experience to new generations of aircraft builders, participates in the processes of improving the production and research base of the enterprise.
