Grigoriy N. Shapoval

Honoured test-pilot of the USSR (1989), captain (1974).

Grigoriy Shapoval was born on March 12, 1943 in the village of Morozy which nowadays is in Kobelyakskiy district of Poltava region (Ukraine). In 1960 he finished 10 classes of school. He went in for skydiving in Dnipropetrovsk aero club.

Since October 1962 Grigoriy Shapoval was in the army. From 1962 to 1963 he served in border forces (Transcaucasian Military District). In 1967 Grigoriy Shapoval graduated from Chernihiv Highter Military aviation school for pilots. He served in combatant forces of the Air Force (Central Asian and Turkestan Military Districts). Since September 1971 he was reserved.

In 1973 Grigoriy Shapoval graduated from the Test-Pilot School.

From April 1973 to August 1983 Grigoriy Shapoval was a test-pilot of Komsomolsk-on-Amur aircraft factory. He has lifted in the sky (on May 4, 1982) and carried out tests of Su-22UM3. He tested production airplanes Su-17 (1973-1983), Su-27 (1981-1983) and their modifications.

From September 1983 to July 1985 Grigoriy Shapoval was a test-pilot of Sukhoi design bureau. He has also performed a number of tests on Su-24, Su-25, Su-27 and their modifications.

From July 1985 to 1996 Grigoriy Shapoval was a test-pilot of Tupolev design bureau. He took part in tests of Tu-160, Tu-204 and has performed a number of tests on Tu-22M, Tu-95, Tu-154 and their modifications.

In 1989 Grigoriy Shapoval established (as a second pilot) 22 world aviation records of speed, altitude and loading capacity on Tu-160.

Till 2001 Grigoriy Shapoval worked as a pilot. He lives in Moscow.

Grigoriy Shapoval was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour (1976) and medals.
