Alexander I. Firsov

Honoured test-pilot of the USSR (1988), captain (1962).

Alexander Firsov was born on September 16, 1936 in the village of Mikhalchukovo which nowadays is in Medynsky district of Kaluga region. In 1954 he graduated from Voronezh Special School of the Air Force (the city of Lipetsk).

Since August 1955 Alexander Firsov was in the army. In 1955 he graduated from the 10th military aviation school of pilots' initial training (the city of Kremenchuk), in 1957 - from Kirovabad Military aviation school for pilots, and till 1960 he was a flight instructor there. In 1960-1965 Alexander Firsov was a flight instructor of Orenburg Military aviation school for pilots. Since November 1965 he was reserved. In 1967 he graduated from the Test-Pilot School.

From November 1967 to September 1974 Alexander Firsov was a test-pilot of Tupolev design bureau. He also took part in tests of Tu-134, Tu-154 and their modifications.

From September 1974 to May 1995 Alexander Firsov was a test-pilot of the Flight Research Institute n.a. M.M. Gromov (in 1991-1993 he was the chief of its flight test complex). He has performed tests of deep-space navigation complex on Il-62; tests of the engine prototypes; a number of tests on An-12, An-24, Il-18, Il-28, Il-62, Il-76, Tu-154, Yak-40, Yak-42.

Alexander Firsov lived in the city of Zhukovsky of the Moscow region, nowadays he lives in the city of Moscow.

Alexander Firsov was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour, medals.
